"The Conquest of Space"
December 10, 2013
Like Dan Geraci, I think of myself as a child of the space age. At the age of two I was nearly killed by one of Werner von Braun's V2 rockets, as my family was living in London at the time (sept 1944). I later saw Chesley Bonestell's glorious paintings of the planets in "The Conquest of Space" (1952) and was instantly hooked. I have since followed every step of the human race's great adventure in space. My only disappointment is that after the moon landings there was a long lull in space exploration, now hopefully over.
An asteroid or comet headed for Earth is the only large-scale natural disaster we can prevent. Working together to fund our Shoemaker NEO Grants for astronomers, we can help save the world.
