A human civilisation in space

Ron Dickens

December 17, 2013

One day the Earth will be too full of people. One day there may be another ice age with the cities of Europe and North America hundreds of feet under ice and those who are left fighting over whatever remains. One day there could be another mass extinction, as there have been mass extinctions in the past. One day we will be glad to have space to move into. I picture, perhaps, a space elevator to get off-planet, maybe solar sails to ferry us from point to point in space, and cities in orbit, around the Earth, and around the Sun in the habitable zone, all largely made from materials mined in space. Tha is what I think may await us. That is what I hope will give humanity a greater chance of survival no matter what changes occur on Planet Earth
