Topics: events and announcements
The wonderfully-active Southern California Planetary Society regional group threw a new volunteer open house at our headquarters on Tuesday. We had a great crowd come out to meet existing volunteers, learn more about volunteering, see our building, meet staff members, and greet Bill Nye.
I spent the evening talking up our current political advocacy efforts. Other stations in the building showed off our Mars rock, displayed our LightSail-1 model, and put out telescopes.
The SoCal Society contains some fantastic people, and they do some neat things around the area. If you live near Los Angeles, contact the regional coordinator, Geo Somoza, to learn how you can help.
You can also Like their page on Facebook to follow their activities.
Thank you to everyone who came out and for our fantastic volunteers in the area for organizing such a fun event.

Asteroid 2012DA14 was a close one.
It missed us. But there are more out there.
