Carl Sagan Fund for the Future
The Planetary Society dreams big dreams - humans exploring Mars, robots digging below the ice on Europa, sending spacecraft to intriguing exoplanets. It may take decades – even centuries – for some of our dreams to come true, which is why we need to ensure a long-term future for The Planetary Society. Our Carl Sagan Fund for the Future is how we will build this future.
The Carl Sagan Fund for the Future is a long-term savings account to sustain The Planetary Society over time. The money invested in the Sagan Fund remains invested, and the earned interest helps support The Planetary Society's mission.
With the help of our members and a $100,000 matching grant from the M.R. Evelyn Hudson foundation, we launched this reserve fund in 2013. In 2014, we received a gift from an anonymous donor who challenged our supporters to raise an additional $500,000 by the end of the year. Each year, we hope to set higher and higher challenges for the fund until we reach our goal of $10 million by 2020.
There are many ways to support the Carl Sagan Fund for the Future. You can donate directly to the fund. You can add The Planetary Society's Carl Sagan Fund for the Future to your will or living trust. You can donate stock, bonds, or mutual funds to support our future.
The Planetary Society is investing in our future. All of our Board members and officers contribute to the Carl Sagan Fund for the Future. We've built the structure for managing and protecting the fund. We're off to a great start with fundraising, but we still have a long way to go. We hope we can count on you to help us meet our $500,000 challenge. Together, we're building a healthy organization that will be ready to advance space exploration for decades to come.
